Grassley discusses courtroom cameras with Supreme Court nominee

Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) took to the Senate floor and said, "I have concluded that I can not support Neil Gorsuch's nomination". There are 52 Republicans in the Senate, so they could confirm Gorsuch along party lines, but they'll need eight Democrats to join them in voting to end debate.

"When you're given the kind of power that only nine people in our Republic have, I think it should be a much higher" threshold for confirmation than 50 votes, he said.

Gorsuch has been compared to the late conservative Justice Antonin Scalia and faced criticism after claims from former law students who said the judge asked a class if anyone knew women who abused maternity benefits.

No other Supreme Court nominee has been successfully filibustered since Lyndon B. Johnson's administration.

U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, a Republican, said following his one-on-one meeting with Gorsuch last month that he plans to vote in favor of the nominee, The Morning Call of Allentown reported.

A number of top Senate Democrats have come out as no votes on Judge Neil Gorsuch, and New York Sen. Short of that, Republican Senate leaders may trigger the so-called "nuclear option", changing the rules to allow a simple majority to proceed.

Grassley said that he wished Schumer could have seen the way Gorsuch was acting in his Supreme Court nomination hearing.

Twinkling away, the ex-president produced one of his trademark soundbites: 'He never stopped being who he was. Her party colleague, Mr Campbell said Mrs Foster's attendance was a "matter of conscience".

Senate Democratic Leader Schumer made it clear where this is going.

"He will have to earn 60 votes for confirmation", Schumer said on Thursday.

Noting that Schumer had announced he would attempt to block any nominee before Gorsuch was even nominated, a McConnell spokesperson pushed back.

"Gorsuch will be confirmed". Schumer said the hours of questions and answers left him unimpressed.

Every one of the 48 Democratic Senator must filibuster Gorsuch's nomination.

U.S. President Donald Trump's nominee for Supreme Court judge Neil Gorsuch spoke out against the president last night (Tuesday) during his Senate confirmation hearing. "I suggest we fulfill our responsibility to this nominee and the country by considering his nomination in the manner his predecessor deserved but was denied".
