Instagram for Android now works offline, iOS may be next

Instagram

On Tuesday, April 18, at F8, Instagram announced it's built support for using most of its features without Internet access.

The offline mode works about as you'd expect - users fire up the app while connected to the Internet, at which point the photo feed populates with the latest content.

Now Instagram users can post even without internet connection. Once a connection is re-established, the app will simply sync up all of this data. The functionality is created to make Instagram easier to use in developing countries, where cellular data isn't always reliable. Check and see. If you see it, let us know in the comments.

Neil Gorsuch confirmed to Supreme Court
Vice President Mike Pence presided over the final vote Friday, even though his vote as a tie-breaker was not necessary. The final senate vote 54 to 45 three democrats voting yes and not a single republican voting no.

And as soon as you get back online, all of these things will go through. TechCrunch has been told by Instagram that an iOS version is being "explored". 80 percent of the community is outside of the USA, and as our platform grows, Instagram must perform across an increasing variety of devices and networks to keep people connected. The same features may make their way to the iOS version eventually, but that rollout hasn't taken place yet. When a data connection is re-established, the actions made will be uploaded to Instagram's servers.

Profiles you've visited are also available in offline mode, as are cached versions of the Explore tab and your own profile.

Instagram, the picture-focused network of food photographers and budding models, recently learned a new trick: The ability to work offline. Instagram could have drawn inspiration from Facebook lite that had around 200 million users after a year of rolling out.
