Marissa Mayer will walk away from Yahoo with $186 million

Bloomberg News Landov

Marissa Mayer is expected to depart Yahoo following the closing of Verizon's $4.5 billion takeover in June - but she's going to cash out big time, as she now owns stock worth more than $200 million. Included in the figure is her golden parachute payout of $23 million, which largely consists of restricted stock. Another $84 million in stock options, Roe pointed out, have already vested, meaning Mayer has the ability to exercise them and they would not be accelerated, according to company filings released in March and back in 2015.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer will reportedly leave the company at least $186 million richer following Verizon's buyout of the Internet pioneer.

File- Marissa Mayer is about to lose her CEO job, but she's in for a nice consolation prize.

A series of acquisitions, such as the social network Tumblr, also failed to pay off for the group, and Yahoo looked to separate the Alibaba stake from its core operations.

Canadian PM responds to Trump's criticism of dairy industry
On Thursday, President Donald Trump reiterated that Canada was to blame for the current crisis, and that he's seeking a solution. President Trump called it " another typical one-sided deal against the United States".

Mayer, who has served as Yahoo's chief executive officer for five years, owns 4.5 million shares of Yahoo stock and options along with restricted stock that will vest when Verizon's deal is done, reported CNN.

Under Mayer's leadership, Yahoo experienced two unprecedented security breaches affecting more than 1 billion users accounts - with the 2014 incident traced to Russian spies. Verizon and Yahoo had to agree to reduce the value of their deal by $350 million after Yahoo disclosed data breaches affecting its customers past year.

Mayer took over Yahoo in July 2012, the fourth CEO in as many years. Shareholders will be asked to approve the deal on 8 June and a yes vote will most likely trigger a huge payout for Mayer. Mayer admitted that year the company had only started investing in mobile in 2013 and was "late" and "behind". But the way she personally profited during her time made her stay at Yahoo charming. This means that when the deal will be finalized, Mayer will no longer remain with Yahoo.

Probably, one of the reasons why this deal got so much interest is not only linked to its impressive value, but also to the fact that Verizon cut part of the initial offer and finally said it will be paying $4.5 billion for the company.
