Cosatu bans Zuma from its meetings

South Africa president Jacob Zuma

The ANC is said to be considering a discussion over removing president Jacob Zuma at a meeting to be held at the end of May, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, citing anonymous senior officials in the party.

The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU), the National Health Education and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU) and the Communication Workers Union (CWU) sent letters to Cosatu's national office bearers a week before the May Day celebrations, protesting President Zuma's invitation.

Cosatu has publicly called for Zuma to resign as head of state, saying he is not the right leader to lead and unite the ANC or the country.

Among those protesting against Zuma are members of several opposition parties, many civil-society groups, trade unions, business executives, the ruling party's alliance partners in the Communist Party, former President Mandela's granddaughter Ndileka, and even the 85-year-old Nobel Peace Prize victor, retired archbishop Desmond Tutu, who is in frail health.

Philippines' Duterte heads to Russian Federation in blow to US
Since taking power past year , Duterte has sought to improve ties with China that deteriorated under predecessor Benigno Aquino . It is but natural that when you talk about peace and when you talk about conflict, the word "war" may come up", Cayetano said.

"We also remain a reliable ally of the ANC". Cosatu's biggest affiliate, the National Union of Metalworkers SA (Numsa), was expelled in 2014 and general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi was axed the next year. Cosatu reiterated its commitment to the tripartite alliance though. "We do not believe president Zuma is fit to lead the movement", said Ntshalintshali.

The last time a possible Zuma recall was reportedly discussed at a NEC meeting, it was shot down by Zuma's supporters in the party, who outnumber his opponents, according to Nomura.

Ntshalintshali said: "One of the unmentioned reasons for the disinvestment of GMSA [GM South Africa] is the question of lack of leadership, which has been raised by rating agencies".

The federation said it would communicate its decision to the ANC.
