Hindu militias kill Muslim in northern India

Indian police detain 3 in beating death of Muslim man

Last month, members of the Hindu Yuva Vahini attacked a couple inside their house in Meerut town, alleging the Muslim man had forced the Hindu woman to accept Islam as her religion.

The Hindu Yuva Vahini activists were allegedly involved in the lynching of 60-year-old Ghulam Ahmed after an inter-faith couple eloped in Bulandshahr, confirmed the Uttar Pradesh Police said in a press statement on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as Ghulam Mohammad, a resident of Sohi village under the Pahasu Police Station. The FIR mentioned "five to six unknown suspects from Hindu Yuva Vahini".

India's most populous state has witnessed increase in attacks against Muslims after Adityanath took charge as chief minister of the state in March this year.

The family of Ghulam Mohammad says his only fault was living next-door to a young man who had eloped with a girl from another community. "They took him to the jungle and hit him and left him to die", the deceased's son said.

Amtrak work at Penn Station likely to cause rail delays this summer
That damage will eventually force Amtrak to close one, if not both, of the current tubes under the Hudson River, Moorman said. Amtrak has laid out at least an initial plan on the work that needs to be done, and how it might be sequenced, Moorman said.

The mob of about six men arrived in the village to question Muslim families, including Mohammad, allegedly threatening people, according to police, as reported by the Hindustan Times.

Since his appointment, units of the Hindu Yuva Vahini have ramped up their anti-Muslim rhetoric and launched a campaign against so-called "Love Jihad" - what they regard as an Islamist strategy to convert Hindu women through seduction and marriage.

The number of men in the group varied from day to day, Vakeel Ahmad said. "The family is accusing the Hindu Yuva Vahini of involvement", Mr. Nagar added. While Govinder is absconding and most villagers of Sohi claim that they have never heard the names of the three arrested ones, the police are yet to disclose further details about the accused men, including which villages they belong to.

Those arrested are Hunny Raghav, Pulkit and Lalit but the main accused, Gavender, is still at large.

However, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Aditya Mishra appeared to be striking a different note as he said the incident should not be seen from "communal point of view" and "associating any particular organisation with the incident is not right".
