Teen's tweet for free chicken nuggets sets record

Carter Wilkerson is approaching top retweet of all time

On April 5, he hopped on Twitter and asked how he could have unfettered access his favorite munchies: Wendy's chicken nuggets.

Dave Thomas, a born-again Christian and the founder of Wendy's, created the charity to find homes for the countless children stuck in America's foster care system.

His plea for retweets was shared almost 3 million times in less than a week, receiving attention from tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft and Google.

With 3.47M (and climbing) retweets, it has surpassed the infamous Ellen DeGeneres Oscar selfie and snagged the title of most retweeted tweet of all time.

Carter Wilkerson, a 16-year-old from Nevada, last month kicked off an innocent quest for free chicken nuggets from Wendy's. Wendy's reply was simple - 18 million.

He then tweeted the conversation with Wendy's with the caption: 'HELP ME PLEASE.

Hamas says Ismail Haniyeh chosen as Islamic group's leader
But it has remained largely closed in recent years because of tensions between Egypt and Gaza's rulers, Hamas . Prior to that, for 10 years, he worked for Hamas charities as well as at the Islamic University of Gaza .

Even DeGeneres herself got in on the action, inviting him to appear on The Ellen Show in mid-April. I worked really hard.

Ellen, however, wasn't impressed her "cultural phenomenon" of a selfie was being dethroned by some hungry teenager - and gave Carter some very lavish gifts to ensure his cooperation. Wendy's pledged to donate $100,000 to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption if Wilkerson's tweet broke the record.

There's further evidence that social media and participation trophies are clearly ruining entire generations after a teen was rewarded with chicken nuggets despite falling well short of expectations. Guinness World Records' official Twitter account tweeted a congratulatory message to Wilkerson for topping that record.

It's a good day for Twitter user Carter Wilkerson.

It should be noted that DeGeneres's tweet, while star-studded, wasn't premised on a campaign to get re-shared, like Wilkerson's.
