Wilder is now in the process of arranging his next title defense, with talks of a unification bout with New Zealand's Paul Parker ongoing.

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has been charged with possession of cannabis.

"Officers obtained verbal consent to search the vehicle and recovered a misdemeanour amount of marijuana from the console", Tuscaloosa Police said in a statement.

Wilder was charged with second-degree marijuana possession, a misdemeanor, and released on $1,000 bond.

Puerto Ricans vote on statehood question
The government has spent millions of dollars on this campaign hoping that statehood wins, but even if it does, the U.S. DOJ to certify the plebiscite, Congress is likely to ignore the outcome of this vote - much as it did in 2012.

Wilder's attorney, Paul Patterson, told The Tuscaloosa News that the marijuana in Wilder's vehicle didn't belong to him, and that someone had used his vehicle while he was out of town.

Police spokeswoman Lt. Teena Richardson said Wilder was pulled over for a tint violation.

The arresting officer said he smelled marijuana coming from Wilder's vehicle. Patterson said that Wilder had just returned from an out-of-town trip, in which he had been driving another vehicle, and selected the Escalade to run errands around Tuscaloosa. Wilder, who has finished 37 out of 38 (97%) fights by knockout, may provide the ideal test for Joshua who has finished all of his 19 fights so far.

"The Bronze Bomber" is now in the process of arranging his next title defense, with WBC number one Bermane Stiverne stipulated to be the challenger. "We hope this matter will be brought to a resolution soon".
