Ruth Davidson warns Theresa May to change course on Brexit

Ms Davidson has been lauded after helping boost the number of Tory seats to 13 north of the border up from one.

Davidson announced on Friday that she had sought and gained assurances from the Prime Minister that gay rights would not be reversed in the United Kingdom following the deal with the DUP, who oppose same-sex marriage.

Ms Davidson was elected as leader of the Scottish Conservatives in 2011 after opposing a similar plan put forward by rival Murdo Fraser, now the party's finance spokesman.

Northern Ireland is the only part of the British Isles where same-sex marriage is still illegal.

Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson has told Prime Minister Theresa May exactly what she thinks about the Democratic Unionist Party's (DUP) opposition to gay marriage.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland programme, he said: "I saw that piece in the Telegraph with some interest and it rang some bells for some things I said a few years ago but I'm assured that there's not a lot of truth in this particular story".

Davidson issued a strong rejection of the suggestion on social media.

In November 2015, the Northern Ireland Assembly voted in favour of same-sex marriage, but the DUP blocked the motion after controversially stating there was a "petition of concern".

New smart speaker expected as Apple kicks off conference
The HomePod is Apple's first new gadget in almost three years, following its announcement of the Apple Watch in September 2014. Google recently launched its own Echo imitation, the Google Home, powered by the still-nameless Google Assistant.

In a short statement outside Downing Street after an audience with the Queen, Mrs May said she would join with her DUP "friends" to "get to work" on Brexit.

He said having far more MPs in Westminster would "make a huge difference" to the influence of the Scottish Conservatives on issues including Brexit, and added: "What you'll see is the new group of Scottish Conservatives arguing for what is in the interest of Scottish communities and Scottish business".

She added: "The prime minister has already made it clear that it is not going to be a formal coalition, so let's see how the future days go ahead".

"It is the policy of both the Conservative party and the UK Labour party to respect the Brexit referendum result".

The DUP are pro-union (not Europe but UK), pro-Brexit and socially conservative.

It opposes same-sex marriage and is anti-abortion - abortion remains illegal in Northern Ireland, except in specific medical cases.

During the election campaign, the DUP's Emma Little-Pengelly was endorsed by the three biggest loyalist paramilitary organisations.
