Saints' Fairley ruled out for 2017 because of heart symptoms

In early June it was reported that the status of New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Nick Fairley for the 2017 season was up in the air due to a heart ailment, with the 13th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft being evaluated by doctors.

Either way, there will nearly certainly be some sort of contract dispute since Fairley just signed a four-year contract with the Saints in March worth between $28-30 million, including an $8 million signing bonus and a total of $14 million in guarantees.

The 29-year-old defensive tackle did not participate in organized team activities or the Saints minicamp because of a heart condition.

The upcoming season is the least of Fairley's career concerns. Fairley learned a few month ago that a Red Flag was raised on his heart after a health examine.

Senate health care status: No bill yet
The Affordable Care Act that the Republicans propose to repeal and replace was a product of 14 months of hearings and amendments. Democratic senators will also make floor speeches late Monday on the subject.

One such specialist has recommended that Fairley, 6-feet-4, 310 pounds, should not play football again.

Payton recently said that both Fairley and the team were waiting on the results of a third opinion. After consulting multiple doctors, the Saints placed him on the NFI. Fairley recorded career-highs in tackles (43) and sacks (6.5) in 2016 and was expected to play a vital role in New Orleans' front seven. He was drafted by the Lions in 2011 His best year with the team was 2013 were Fairley tailed six sacks and thirty four tackles. He spent his first four seasons with the Detroit Lions.

New Orleans' top remaining interior defensive linemen include Sheldon Rankins, Tyeler Davison and David Onyemata.
