Theresa May set for Queen's speech - but DUP deal 'certainly not imminent'

Theresa May did not get a mandate for a ‘hard Brexit

She said: "We will build the broadest possible consensus for our Brexit plans, and that means giving Parliament the maximum amount of time to scrutinise these bills by holding a two-year session of Parliament".

"Lets make 21st June, the day of the Queens speech A DAY OF RAGE, a day we shut down London, a declaration that there will be no peace until this government is brought down", event organisers the Movement for Justice By Any Means Necessary said in a post on Facebook.

But he added: "The government must go much further - it must use the Queen's Speech to cancel the cuts which are planned for our schools, our hospitals and our care system".

The Conservatives are still trying to agree terms with the Democratic Unionists to secure their support for Mrs May's minority government.

"While this will be a Government that consults and listens, we are clear that we are going to see Brexit through, working with Parliament, business, the devolved administrations and others to ensure a smooth and orderly withdrawal".

The Queen's Speech on Wednesday will include three bills created to funnel investment into major transport infrastructure created to help Britain boom after leaving the European Union.

It is also expected to include the Great Repeal Bill which will copy EU legislation into United Kingdom legislation and reverse the 1972 European Communities Act, according to the BBC.

Oil markets slow to balance, OPEC economists say
Though they remained lower on the day, US Treasury yields pared declines, with traders citing the hawkish tone of the statement. This upward adjustment was mainly due to the downward revision in non-OPEC supply as world oil demand remained unchanged.

Once completed, people will know which laws the government is hoping to pass, and what their priorities are for the coming Parliament.

Opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn denounced the speech, arguing that May had delivered a "threadbare" program devoid of new ideas.

The Lord High Chancellor gives the Queen's Speech to the Queen to read. While the Queen is the head of state, she is not the head of government, and this separation is taken seriously in the UK.

Labour and Liberal Democrat peers may feel emboldened to oppose the passage of Brexit legislation because the Conservatives have not only failed to win an overall majority but have also ditched large portions of their own manifesto.

The Queen takes her seat on the throne in the House of Lords.

Theresa May has promised to work with "humility and resolve" as the government prepares to outline its legislative programme later.

Even before news of Prince Philip's illness, the government had announced that the speech would be delivered with less pageantry than usual as a result of the timing of the snap election.
