Venus Williams at fault in fatal June 9 car crash, police say

Tennis world number 11 Venus Williams

Police have said that tennis superstar Venus Williams is responsible for a auto accident that took a man's life earlier this month.

According to TMZ Sports, which obtained the police report, the crash happened in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on June 9, when Williams' SUV abruptly entered an intersection, leaving the other vehicle no time to stop, according to that driver.

According to the both news reports, Jerome Barson, 78, was the passenger in a auto driven by his wife that struck Williams' SUV at a busy intersection.

According to the report, Williams said she was just trying to cross the intersection when traffic slowed her down, exposing her on the intersection. Barson's wife, who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident, suffered broken bones and other injuries.

TMZ notes that there was no evidence Venus was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol or distracted by an electronic device.
