White House discussing moving Spicer to senior communications role

Senate judiciary probe may review obstruction of justice

CNN's Jim Acosta chided the White House and Press Secretary Sean Spicer on Monday after he said reporters were prohibited from recording video or audio of a press gaggle on Monday.

Acosta also railed at Spicer dodging questions, charging, "The White House press secretary is getting to a point, Brooke, where he is just kind of useless". Traditionally, the White House carves out separate roles and staffs for the press secretary and communications director.

Acosta went on to say that reporters asked a variety of questions on hot-button issues like the Republicans' forthcoming health care bill, Trump's opinions on climate change, whether he's been taping conversations in the White House and whether he could fire the special prosecutor looking into possible connections to Russian Federation.

Acosta's comments came just after Spicer held an off-camera press briefing that reporters were not allowed to record.

What To Watch For In Virginia's Gubernatorial Primaries
Perriello is touting his progressive credentials and has the support of the Vermont senator as well as Massachusetts Sen. Northam is a more traditional candidate who stresses his pragmatic approach and ability to work with Republicans.

Comey told lawmakers that he hoped the tapes did exist since he was confident they would corroborate his memo.

The Fox Business report cited White House officials saying that Spicer will not be doing the daily press briefings in his new role.

Unclear is who will take over the regular duties as press secretary - though President Trump is fond of Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders' performance to date - or who will become communications director. In subsequent months, he would see the statements he made at the White House podium contradicted by the President - raising questions about the administration's credibility and Spicer's ability to speak for Trump with confidence.

"This isn't how we do things in this country but for whatever reason we're all going along with it". "If they can't give us the answers to the questions on camera or where we can record the audio, they're basically pointless". "Sean is indispensable and I think the president knows that".
