Winning Powerball ticket sold in California

Powerball jackpot up to $435M, 10th largest in US history

After weeks with no winning numbers, one lucky ticket was sold in California Saturday night.

The mayor of the Southern California city where the winning Powerball ticket was sold says he hopes a local resident has won the jackpot.

There was one jackpot winning Powerball ticket sold in California in Saturday's $447.8 million grand prize drawing, the lottery game said on its website.

Alberre owns the store with his father, who has owned it for 26 years.

A Powerball spokesman said it may take some time to determine whether someone won an estimated $435 million jackpot Saturday, the Associated Press reported.

Powerball jackpot up to $435M, 10th largest in US history
If you choose the cash payment, the taxes are immediately taken out and you're given the remainder of your winnings in a lump sum. The jackpot for Saturday's Powerball drawing has grown to an estimated $435 million , the eighth-largest in Powerball history.

The largest lottery jackpot in USA was just in January of a year ago, when three winners split a total of $1.8 billion. "We're very, very grateful for this to happen to our store".

The unnamed victor has a year to claim the jackpot.

Alberre said the store does not yet have any plans for what they will do with the $1 million bonus.

The earliest the victor could claim their prize was 8 a.m. Sunday; the victor will have one year from the draw date to come forward. The victor has a year to come forward and claim the prize, and can choose to cash in a prize of $279.1 million or to receive the full amount in installments over 29 years.

The reason the jackpot has grown so large is that no one has matched all the numbers since April 1.
