Jason Garrett, Cowboys were unaware Lucky Whitehead was arrested

Report: Cowboys WR Lucky Whitehead Arrested For Shoplifting

The Dallas Cowboys have released wide receiver Lucky Whitehead on Monday afternoon mere hours after the organization discovered he had outstanding charges for petty larceny and failing to appear before court.

25, was arrested June 22 on shoplifting/petit larceny charge of less than $200, according to Prince William County (Va.) records. A Wawa store employee notified police a man had left without paying, leading to the arrest and subsequent charge.

In other off-the-field incidents, Cowboys linebacker Damien Wilson was arrested July 4 on charges of assault with a deadly weapon; cornerback Nolan Carroll was arrested May 29 and charged with driving under the influence; defensive end David Irving was suspended by the NFL on June 28 for four games for violating the league's drug program; and rookie cornerback Jourdan Lewis also was arrested with a jury trial scheduled to begin Monday in MI. One one hand, Whitehead is out of a job and is being tracked down for his arrest, while his agent is claiming that he wasn't even in the area, with valid proof.

It's over for Lucky Whitehead in Dallas. - Whitehead's rep says his client was NOT actually arrested that day because he was not in town.

Whitehead had a court appearance on July 6, according to TMZ Sports, but was a no-show. The reason he didn't receive the citation and summons is because he wasn't in the state when the crime occurred, Rich said.

Whitehead played football for Osbourn, attended Florida Atlantic University and joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2015. It possibly will not matter if Whitehead is proven innocent.

Coach Jason Garrett, when asked if he may be released from the team said: 'Well, absolutely.

Today, Garrett stated that he learned about Whitehead's June 22nd arrest after leaving the morning walkthrough.

Last week, Whitehead made headlines when he said that his dog was being held for ransom.

The court date has been rescheduled for August 10.

"So just to come in and know I'll have all this time and all these reps to get better, I'm excited". But, it wasn't me. I NEVER once had an altercation with the cops. Whitehead is unlikely to face a team-imposed suspension.

Dallas already has two defensive players suspended to start the season in pass rushers David Irving and Randy Gregory. Whitehead averaged 23.2 yards on kickoff returns and 7.8 yards as a punt returner in 2016.
