Mexico vs. El Salvador in 2017 Gold Cup

This Sunday, July 9, 2017 (6:00 PM Pacific) Mexico will play El Salvador at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California for a group stage match in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Prior to the match, the entire squad was only responsible for eight worldwide goals, and with the added setback of the injury to Chivas striker Alan Pulido during El Tri's friendly with Paraguay, many wondered where the offensive threat would come from.

Playing on the left wing in the first half, Hernandez swung in the free kick from which Hegardo Marin headed in Mexico's opening goal after only eight minutes. While Mexico is the clear favorite to take the three points from this game and the Gold Cup trophy, the game should still be an intriguing affair.

Mexico's third came in the 55th minute after another great feed from Hernandez. La Selecta will certainly believe that it can challenge Jamaica, which beat Curacao 2-0 earlier Sunday, for the second spot in Group C and a place in the quarterfinals. But the real outstanding moment of the match came when Hernandez volleyed in a deep Jesus Gallardo cross to hand Mexico the lead after half an hour.

Once the third goal was scored, the match ended up being a training session, where Mexico worked on possession and movement of the ball.

To add even more adversity, Osorio had to sit at a suite in Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego as part of a six-match ban imposed by Federation Internationale de Football Association for insulting the officials at the Mexico v. Portugal game.

Federation Internationale de Football Association said on Friday it was suspending Mexico's soccer coach Juan Carlos Osorio for six games, saying he directed insulting words at match officials during a game against Portugal.

El Salvador should have made it 2-1 in the 27th minute. The midfield is a rigid force with players like Jesus Molina, Jesus Duenas, Orbelin Pineda, Rodolfo Pizarro and Erick Gutierrez.

After a dominant nine-minute-stretch by El Salvador, Mexico found a way to open up the scoreline on a set piece.

The result pushes Mexico to the top of Group C after the first round of games.
