The puppeteer behind Kermit the Frog has quit the show, after almost 30 years manning one of the most iconic Muppets. Steve Whitmire, who has supplied Kermit's unique nasal tones since the death of Muppets creator Jim Henson in 1990, is leaving the Muppets according to ABC News, and is being replaced by Matt Vogel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a spokesperson for The Muppets Studio declined to comment on the details behind Steve's departure.

In addition to Kermit, Whitmire had voiced grumpy critic Statler, Rizzo the Rat and other characters for the Muppets.

Whitmire career with the Muppets goes all the way back to the 70s. "There's a much larger sense of optimism about what's coming up next for the Muppets", he said.

Most Americans say U.S. politics is less civil under Trump, poll finds
Eight years ago, 21 percent of Americans in that poll thought civility and the tone of discourse in the country had improved. The poll is a complete reversal of Republican views in Democrat Barack Obama's presidency.

He will be making his first appearance on "Muppets Thought of the Week" next week, though it is unlikely you will be able to spot any difference to the actual voice.

Meanwhile, Vogel has provided vocals for Muppet characters like Floyd Pepper, Uncle Deadly and Sweetums.

Henson and his 2-foot-tall puppet joined "Sesame Street" in 1969. After 27 years, most fans have reconciled. Hennes called Vogel "one of the best puppeteers in the world".

Kermit the Frog - with whom the famous diva has had an on-off romance over many years - is "losing" his voice.
