Manchester City make shock Jonny Evans bid

Manchester City have initial £18 million bid rejected for West Brom defender Jonny Evans

After reports that emerged earlier today that Manchester City were interested in West Brom defender Jonny Evans it appears that an official bid has been made.

It was assumed that the only way for Evans' career was downhill when he was jettisoned by boyhood club Manchester United two years ago.

The Northern Ireland global often divided opinions as United player, with Red Devils fans being split on whether he was good enough to command a regular place in the first team.

The Irish global gained prominence during his stint at Manchester United, which saw him secure three Premier League titles including the Red Devils' last one in recent seasons.

Citizens boss Pep Guardiola has spent heavily in the transfer window this summer, but the Spaniard is not finished yet and has turned his eyes to raiding the Hawthorns.

Anyone else mesmerised by Scott Hall's hips in the background of that gif or is it just me? A year on, Evans' value has risen, but in the current insane transfer market, it is understandable why Guardiola could see him as a viable option.

Eliaquim Mangala is not in favour at City, and has been linked with Inter Milan. Evans, however, could be a valuable addition to the first-team setup at Etihad.

Jonny Evans would be a good signing for City.

He is comfortable with the ball at his feet - a major asset in any Guardiola team - and plays on the left side defence where City don't now have a natural fit.

He's comfortable in a two, comfortable with three at the back, and he's not bad on the ball either.

Evans made 198 appearances for Manchester United during his time at Old Trafford.

He joined West Brom after being told he did not figure in former United manager Louis van Gaal's plans.
