OH man charged in Charlottesville auto ramming incident; victim identified

Virginia State Police Police block the scene of the crash

Law enforcement later arrested Fields in a vehicle matching the description given.

Fields has been charged with second degree murder, three counts of malicious wounding, and one count related to leaving the scene.

The next court hearing on Fields' case is scheduled for August 25.

The woman who was killed in the incident was named as Heather Heyer, 32. According to NBC 12, Fields' former teacher said the suspect had an obsession with Nazis when he was younger and that he had tried to join the military but was denied because of psychological problems.

Derek Weimer, who taught Fields history at Randall K. Cooper High School in Kentucky, told the Toledo Blade that Fields expressed white-supremacy ideologies in school.

The alleged driver, James Alex Fields Jr., a 20-year-old who travelled to Virginia from OH, had espoused extremist ideals since high school, the Washington Post quoted the suspect's former history teacher Derek Weimer as saying. He says "twice I said to him we have to stop this hateful speech, this rhetoric".

Liberal's interim leader cut up at Clark's sudden departure
All 44 NDP and Green MLAs voted together, against 43 Liberals, in favour of a motion put forward by NDP Leader John Horgan. Clark led the party into a spring election - her second as premier - which reduced the party to a minority.

"I've never spoken with the gentleman (Fields), I don't know anything about him", he said.

Fields told his mother, Samantha Bloom, he was attending the rally, but she didn't know it was a white supremacist gathering, according to the Associated Press.

Bro continued: "I always encouraged her to be strong and strong-minded - even though that wasn't always easy to raise - but I was always proud of what she was doing".

After a few speakers took the stage, people took to the street - marching and chanting against racism, against hate and against President Donald Trump - despite President Trump speaking out against the attack. He said he met with the FBI director and U.S. Attorney General, and the Department of Justice has opened a civil rights investigation.

In those remarks, he did not single out white supremacists or any other hate group.

These calls operate in direct contract to Bloom's response when informed of her son's alleged actions in Charlottesville.
