Arlington County Pursuing Amazon's New Headquarters

Amazon is seen at the company logistics center in Lauwin-Planque northern France

The new HQ will be the world's largest e-commerce company's second in North America, and "will be a full equal" to its current headquarters in Seattle, Amazon founder and chief executive Jeff Bezos said. "We're excited to find a second home", he added.

Amazon's campus in the northwest USA state of Washington now employs more than 40,000 people scattered across 33 buildings and 750,000 square meters (8.1 million square feet) of office space, according to a company fact sheet.

At Amazon's Seattle campus, where it's building these "Spheres" as a nature complex and workspace. Only last month, it closed on a deal to lease an additional 13,500 square meters of office space there.

Amazon is accepting proposals from cities through October 19, and is expected to announce the victor in 2018.

Amazon, which has long favored growth and investments over profit, has been growing rapidly as it expands dozens of programs, including its instant-delivery service Prime Now and Amazon Fresh. It is debatable - and people love to debate - whether Minnesota has Amazon's other two must-haves: "a stable and business-friendly environment" and "communities that think big and creatively when considering locations and real estate options".

United Nations chief appeals to Myanmar govt to end violence against Rohingya Muslims
Myanmar soldiers retaliated with what they called "clearance operations" aimed at flushing insurgents out from Rohingya villages. The government was working hard to ensure terrorism did not spread across Rakhine State, she added.

Amazon is now asking local and state governments to pitch for its business, with the promise of boosting the local economy.

Amazon HQ2 will house 50,000 employees.

Whoever does end up winning the honor of hosting Amazon's "HQ2" will automatically become a "mini Silicon Valley", James Thomson of Buy Box Experts said during Thursday's "Squawk on the Street" segment.

The online giant is also considering a development-prepped site. Those who now work at the Seattle office are expected to be able to choose if they'd like to stay or relocate to the new location.

In January, the company announced plans to create over 100,000 new full-time jobs in the U.S. It's been steadily announcing new fulfillment centers. Amazon doesn't say when it wants to be finished with construction on HQ2, but since it's already accepting proposals, we should see the ball begin rolling soon. "The "prize" is tremendous if any city/state is able to land Amazon, given its commitment to 50,000 new jobs and $5bn of investment in the HQ2", she said.
