Federation Internationale de Football Association poppy ban: Gordon Strachan and Michael O'Neill want 'common sense'

Football lawmakers IFAB to lift poppy ban

The decision by football's world governing body comes after all four Home nations were fined past year when they ignored the ban on players wearing slogans or symbols which are considered to be personal, political or religious.

The teams were fined for wearing the commemorative symbol as it went against a Federation Internationale de Football Association rule that players were not allowed to wear anything on the pitch that could be deemed "political" such as wearing a symbol commemorating any person living or dead, supporting a political party or group, or supporting a discriminatory organisation.

According to the BBC, Fifa reportedly sent out a draft proposal to its members with revised provisions that would allow the poppy if opposing teams and the competition organiser accept its use in advance.

England players are set to wear poppies on their kit for their friendly global on Remembrance Day this year after Federation Internationale de Football Association agreed to relax its ban.

The players wore the poppy on a black armband during a World Cup qualifier match at Wembley last November.

Previous year the English FA was fined £35,000 for their players wearing poppies on their armbands for their World Cup qualifier on Armistice day against Scotland at Wembley.

The row drew criticism from UK Prime Minister Theresa May, who called Fifa's stance "utterly outrageous".

'God Is With Us': Hurricane Maria Makes Landfall In Puerto Rico
Dominica Consul General Barbara Dailey said officials hadn't been able to communicate with anyone on the island since 4 a.m. National Hurricane Center forecaster Eric Blake tweeted Maria could be the most destructive storm in Puerto Rico's history.

It's understood the a formal announcement of the rule change is expected to be made in time for the England v Germany match on November 10.

The poppy has always been used as a symbol for the British to commemorate military personnel who died in battle.

England are expected to play Germany at Wembley in November, if they secure World Cup qualification next month.

The new law is expected to be passed by November's global games played during the Remembrance weekend when people don Poppies.

Writing in the Daily Mail, Charles Sale says that Fifa has "come to its senses" over the poppy dispute, while The Times says it's a "significant victory" for the English Football Association.

As a result of this, the United Kingdom associations are no longer expected to pay the fines they were hit with previous year.
