Today, Disney and Lucasfilm announced that they are bringing back J.J. Abrams, who directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens, to take over the project.

Following the departure of Colin Trevorrow from Star Wars: Episode IX, a new report has emerged revealing why the director was sacked from the project. Star Wars Episode IX will be produced by the team of Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, J.J. Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm.

Huge, huge news on the Star Wars front today - there has been a ton of speculation about who might take over the final film in the new trilogy since Colin Trevorrow was reported leaving the project.

The middle film in the triilogy, Rian Johnson's "The Last Jedi", coming out in December, is believed to be darker and different than anything we've seen before in the franchise.

NIA conducts raids at residences of Hurriyat-G leaders
The J&K police and the CRPF have laid siege around these locations to facilitate smooth raids, the official sources said. Early in the morning, a NIA team conducted searches at the residence of Hurriyat leader Agha Syed Hassan in Budgam.

The "Force Awakens" is the third-highest grossing movie of all time, taking $2.1 billion, and spinoff movie "Rogue One" was beaten only by "Captain America: Civil War" in 2016.

Jurassic World director Trevorrow had been on board to direct Episode IX since 2015.

Following the critical and commercial success of Wonder Woman this summer, Patty Jenkins is one of the most sought-after directors in Hollywood right now.

It's safe to say that given how Star Wars: Episode VII ended on a cliffhanger that many are curious to see what will transpire in the next Star Wars, which is set for a release towards the end of the year.

Rumors ran rampant that Rian Johnson or J.J. Abrams, directors of The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens respectively, were in the running for the position. Star Wars fans alarmed by The Book of Henry'stoxic reviews and box officebegan expressing doubt over Trevorrow being handed the keys to their favorite franchise - to the extent that Trevorrow had to publicly defend his gig shortly after The Book of Henry's release. "Episode IX" is scheduled to be released in May 2019.

In a statement issued by Disney, creative differences were cited as the reason behind Trevorrow's departure.
