NIA conducts raids at residences of Hurriyat-G leaders

The NIA spokesman said the raids and searches were conducted in connection with the ongoing probe into militancy and separatist funding and cross-LoC trade.

Early in the morning, a NIA team conducted searches at the residence of Hurriyat leader Agha Syed Hassan in Budgam.

The NIA also raided the residence of prominent separatist Shia leader Aga Syed Hussain Badgami, who is also part of Syed Ali Shah Geelani-headed faction of the Hurriyat Conference.

Qayoom on Wednesday appeared before the NIA in New Delhi. Nobody other than the accounts manager was allowed in or out of Aga's Police-protected residence. "The NIA raided early today and searched the house till about 3pm", sources said. Aga Syed Hassan was also present at the preseer.

Besides, the NIA team also raided and searched the house of JKLF leader Showkat Ahmad Bakshi.

On Friday a photo journalist from Kashmir was arrested by the National Investigation Agency on the charge that he was involved in incidents of stone pelting. The two militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Soimoh area of Tral.

Besides, he said, "houses of close aides of Shabir Ahmad Shah including Zameer Sheikh (Srinagar) and Razzaq Choudhary (Jammu) were searched". NIA sleuths seized three arms - a pistol, a double-barrel gun and a.315 bore rifle from there, officials said. Even the NIA press release in the evening did not mention any weapons having been seized from any locations.

Watali, who is considered as a political broker, was arrested by the NIA last month.

Prior to his arrest, JKLF chairman while talking to media person outside JKLF office said that this arrest actually shows the hollowness of NIA claims about so-called terror funding.

The NIA has arrested seven people in the case of alleged funding of terror and subversive activities in the Kashmir Valley to fuel unrest there. The J&K police and the CRPF have laid siege around these locations to facilitate smooth raids, the official sources said.

The NIA sleuths raided residences of businessmen Abdul Khaliq Mir at Kralpora, Kupwara and Ghulam Rasool Magray and his neighbour Amin Magray of Sudarpora Kandi, Kupwara.
