Pelosi Praises Dreamers' Parents, Says They 'Did A Great Thing'

A Deal on DACA Would Be the Ultimate Test of Trump's Base

The first protest leader led the group in chanting, "We, the undocumented youth, will not be a bargaining chip for Trump's xenophobic agenda, deporting millions of people and further militarizing the border!" She said protecting the families of Dreamers is "the next logical step" if Congress can secure a DACA fix. "They are the ones who opened the door for people who came here illegally into the country to get citizenship and to get work permits, and then to give that benefit to the children of people who came here illegally", Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and NYPD officer, said.

President Donald Trump canceled DACA earlier this month, but left Congress a six-month window in which to find a legislative solution for the roughly 800,000 DACA beneficiaries. The protesters - reportedly activists from RISE, Faith in Action, and the California Youth Immigrant Justice Alliance - chanted for about 30 minutes, eventually forcing Pelosi, Lee, and Huffman to withdraw from the room.

"Let me say this, because you've had your say, and it's handsome to our ears to hear you're protecting yourselves..." she said before being shouted down.

Trump's fiery rhetoric and promise to seal the USA border with Mexico attracted millions of supporters in last year's election, many of them older white conservatives like the ones who repeatedly elected immigration hard-liner Joe Arpaio as sheriff here in Maricopa County.

"Democrats created an out-of-control deportation machine", the protesters yelled.

The deal with Democrats and willingness to accommodate Dreamers mark a striking turnabout for Trump.

"We have an agreement with the President to support a clean, DREAM Act", Pelosi told the OBSERVER. But the shouting did not stop.

The new LTE modem makes it even more functional as owners will no longer need to stay within Bluetooth range of their iPhones. It uses your phone's connection while you are nearby, but as soon as you are away with your iPhone , it still works well.

"They don't know Mexico", she said as she headed into a Mesa grocery store.

"Okay, you've asked your questions", Pelosi said, cutting in.

When Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi dined with Trump at the White House Wednesday night, as expected, the three discussed passing a measure to shield these so-called Dreamers from deportation. North Carolina Republican Rep. Mark Meadows, who leads the House Freedom Caucus, said that "if we try to get the political rhetoric out of it and actually look for real solutions", a deal is "entirely possible".

Pelosi, meanwhile, told The Associated Press on Friday that she and Schumer are looking for ways to build trust and confidence with Trump. "This administration's heartless, endless efforts to target and marginalize immigrant communities makes the immediate passage of a clean DREAM Act all the more urgent", said SAALT executive director Suman Raghunathan.

More than a dozen states from ME to California have sued over the administration's decision to phase out the program, alleging similar constitutional violations.

Pelosi's statement marks a sharp departure from the traditional Democratic rhetoric surrounding the Deferred Actions for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which typically foregoes mentioning parents and instead focuses on the young people shielded from deportation under the program as victims brought to the country illegally through no fault of their own.
