Watzke acknowledges importance of Spurs clash

Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur will kick-off their Champions League group stage campaign when they entertain Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on Wednesday night.

With Real Madrid, the two-time defending champions, and Apoel Nicosia, the Cypriot minnows, making up group H, Dortmund are widely expected to be Tottenham's most direct competitors for qualification.

Spurs are still to truly convince at their temporary home and Dortmund will be keen to exploit any lingering anxiety within Mauricio Pochettino's camp. "In theory, it should be Real Madrid first and the others trying for second, but football is not about theory", the Argentinian added. "We know that the first game is so important, it will be tough because Dortmund is a great team".

Wins Tottenham managed in three Champions League group matches at Wembley last season.

It was no surprise that after securing her victory she ran over to celebrate with her team. Soon, she had to serve for the match and the pressure was ramped up.

Tottenham also have seven league points in their domestic campaign ahead of tomorrow's clash, but are yet to win at their new home of Wembley this campaign having lost to Chelsea and drawn with Burnley.

"I think it's so important to try to win the first game and get three points". Even without Alli and injured trio Victor Wanyama, Danny Rose and Erik Lamela, Spurs can have far more faith in their squad than they did a fortnight ago, and certainly more than they did the last time they played the Germans.

In Spain or Italy they prioritise the Champions League rather than the domestic league. "It was a very painful experience because we couldn't be at the level we needed to be, but now that's not an excuse". "It will definitely give us confidence if we go out and get results against teams like Dortmund". We want to be known as one of the best sides in Europe and the only way to do that is to compete in the Champions League.
