AFL grand final: Richmond beat Adelaide in remarkable turnaround

Tigers fans react to a goal at Punt Rd

Of course, pressure alone doesn't win premierships.

They appeared on track to claim the ultimate prize for the first time since going back to back in 1997 and 1998, but were totally unclassed apart from a 10-minute burst at the start of the game.

Martin's a high school drop-out from a broken home, whose father Shane Martin is a former bikie gang member now living - under protest - in New Zealand after being deported from Australia.

Dustin Martin won the Norm Smith Medal as best afield, making history as the first player to win a premiership and achieve the Norm Smith-Brownlow Medal double in the same season.

Jack Graham was the surprise X-factor, kicking three goals in only his fifth game of AFL football, as the Tigers powered away from the Crows in the second half to win 16.12 (108) to 8.12 (60).

The Tigers' tackling pressure and selflessness was the key to the victory, but so was the way that every man played his role, including some unforeseen match-winners.

With Richmond up by nine at the main break, there were concerns on both sides.

Richmond kicked four unanswered goals in the second quarter, roaring into the lead with 6.4.40 to 4.7.31 over Adelaide at halftime, and they didn't stop there.

Bachar Houli, hitherto regarded as something of a flighty back flanker prone to doing his best work on the outside, was superb for the Tigers, including in the clinches.

Saudi women have a long road ahead
The biggest issue may be winning the approval of Saudi Arabia's Wahhabi clerics, the most conservative of the Islamic faith. Sept 28: Saudi appointed its first spokeswoman, Fatimah Baeshen, at its embassy in Washington.

The intensity had not waned, and the Crows were not backing off. Sloane got the ball out of a pack and snapped his second, to regain the lead - then Hugh Greenwood added another snap to put the lead out to 11 points at quarter-time.

"But also the capacity to settle and actually start playing the game because sometimes you can get overhyped".

What should not be underestimated is the way the Tigers kept Adelaide to their lowest score of the year, and completely nullified a team that looked to have as potent an attack as seen in recent years.

THE MOMENT: The Tigers entered the fourth term 34 points up, but plenty of nerves remained.

The emotion spilled over in forward Jack Riewoldt's on-field interview with Richmond legend Matthew Richardson on Channel 7.

The Crows began the match brightly, with two goals inside the first five minutes.

Instead, Richmond kicked the opening two goals of the last quarter and it was time to party. Riewoldt did, and the Tigers were. Riewoldt snapped a set shot from 40m out and it went through at foot height.

And even though the 2017 season is complete, the Tiger faithful - loyal, loud and a little unhinged - are sure to energise the sporting capital for a few more days yet.
