Air France A380 makes emergency landing with damaged engine

SEE IT: Engine destroyed on Air France flight from Paris to LA

The Air France passenger plane Airbus A380 made an emergency landing in Canada after its engine disintegrated over the Atlantic Ocean. The regularly trained pilots and cabin crew handled the incident perfectly.

However, no one got injured due to the emergency landing. "The passengers are now being assisted by teams dispatched to the location".

Photos taken by passengers showed the cowling, or engine covering, completely destroyed, and some cosmetic damage to the wing's surface.

Air France is facing a daunting technical challenge to fix an extensively damaged A380 at one of Canada's most remote airports.

According to Flight Fleets Analyzer, F-HPJE was delivered to Air France in May 2010 and is equipped with a total of 516 seats.

The A380 landed safely at 1542 GMT at Goose-Bay airport in Canada.

The landing went off with no problems for the jetliner carrying 496 passengers and 24 crew members, the spokesman said.

In response, the airline described the engine as having "serious damage".

Air France has not commented on the cause of engine failure.
