Packers: Aaron Jones impresses after injuries to Ty Montgomery, Jamaal Williams

Green Bay Packers' Ty Montgomery is hit by Chicago Bears' Leonard Floyd during the first half of an NFL football game Thursday Sept. 28 2017 in Green Bay Wis

Since making the switch from wide receiver to running back in December of a year ago, Montgomery proved himself as a viable weapon in the Packers' offense.

With starting offensive tackles David Bakhtiari (hamstring) and Bryan Bulaga (ankle) inactive and backup tackles Jason Spriggs, Kyle Murphy and Don Barclay on injured reserve, the Packers started a makeshift offensive line that didn't include any career tackles. He then left Thursday night's game with a chest injury, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network later reported broken ribs for Montgomery.

That is not exactly what fantasy players are looking for, but Montgomery did manage 5.9 yards per carry a year ago as a converted receiver, and Williams has plenty of upside to be a game-changing back.

Jones finished the evening with 49 rushing yards on 13 carries.

If the Packers are without Ty Montgomery and Jamaal Williams for an extended amount of time, Jones could be a sneaky flex play in fantasy football, especially in PPR leagues. As evidence, head coach Mike McCarthy told Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com on Friday that Montgomery is "preparing to play against Dallas".

On that note, here are five running backs Packers general manager Ted Thompson could look to acquire.

However, Williams' talent alone makes him worth a waiver-wire pickup if he is still available. He'll be relied on to keep Green Bay's offense balanced next week while the rest of their depth chart heals up. Jones tallied 1,773 rushing yards and 21 total touchdowns (one passing) in his final collegiate season, suggesting he can be a weapon in red-zone situations if defenses key on Rodgers.
